WWII and Korea - Combat Observer and Liaison Pilot Grouping

A grouping to Captain Wilson Spahr. Documents, wings, insignia, dog tags, patches and named air medal.

Wilson Spahr was from Harrisburg, PA and briefly served in the armed forces in the 1930's and then from 1943 until 1952 as an Artillery Officer Forward Air Controller and Liaison Pilot. He was awarded an Air Medal and ETO Medal when flying as a 1st Lt with the 341st Field Artillery Battalion in which he flew 35 missions as a Liaison Pilot and combat reconnaissance pilot supporting infantry units of the 89th Division in the crossing of the Moselle and Rhine Rivers. He servived in the Korean War with the 235th Observation in support of 10th Corps and the Third Infantry Division flying 40+ combat recon missions.

The grouping includes the following items:-
1. An original Liaison Pilot Wing, pin back in sterling silver, maker marked Amcraft.
2. Set of WWII dog tags named and numbered.
3. WWII Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, named and engraved privately.
4. 1st Lt and Captain rank insignia both pin back in sterling silver.
5. A 341st Field Artillery branch of service insignia, clutch back.by Meyer NY.
6. 235th Observation Artillery branch of service insignia, clutch back.
7. Original citation for the Air Medal covering the period 14th March to 11 April 1945, completing 35 combat missions.
8. Scarce 10th Corps citation for the award of a first oak leak while participating in flights in unarmed aircraft over enemy territory from 4 November until 27 December 1951.
9. Original citation for the award of the second oak leaf cluster from 2 March to 1 July 1952 flying 40 combat missions over enemy territory.
10. Copies of service record and various orders and promotions.
11. 2 x photos 10" x 8" of crashed observation aircraft.
12. 8 x photos 10" x 8" of aerial observation.
