The 13th Combat Aviation Battalion was originally formed as the Delta Aviation Battalion (Provisional) on 4 July 1963 at Can Tho, South Viet Nam. On August 5 1964 the 13th Aviation Battalion was activated at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and deployed to South Viet Nam to replace the provisional Delta Aviation Battalion. In September 1964 the 13th Aviation Battalion made they base of operation at Can Tho and under went a name change and became the 13th Combat Aviation Battalion. The 13th CAB provided air mobility for IV Corps Delta Tactical Zone. In December 1967 the 13th CAB was reassigned to the 164th Combat Aviation Group and relocated their base of operations to Soc Trang in October 1968. The 13th Combat Aviation Battalion was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation; 27 & 28 August 1965 for action in Chuong Thien Province and the Valorous Unit Award; 4 to 6 April 1965 for participation in Operation"Dan Chi" in support of ARVN General Dong Van Quang's 21st Division. The 13th Combat Aviation Battalion received the Outstanding Aviation Unit of the year in 1964. The 13th CAB stood-down in March 1972.
