WWII Royal New Zealand Airforce Lucky Charm
Here is a New Zealand “Fern” badge maker marked by JR Gaunt London it was worn un-officially by RNZAF air crews as a lucky talisman. Excellent Gaunt quality. Measures 1 3/8”
An Evening Post newspaper in an article, dated 24 April 1942, about 75 (NZ) Squadron noted that “In every aircraft the crews wear the silver fern badge. The men regard it as a Lucky Talisman and would not dream of flying without it. The English members of the crews also proudly wear the badge.”
