WWII US Army 101st Airborne Division “Type 1” Patch

A hard to find 101st Airborne Division commomly known as a “Type 1” patch. Two piece shoulder patch in good condition.

The Airborne arc measures 2 3/8”
The Eagle patch measures 2 1/2”

During World War II, it was renowned for its role in Operation Overlord the D-Day landings and airborne landings on 6 June 1944, in Normandy, France, Operation Market Garden, the liberation of the Netherlands and, perhaps most famously, its action during the Battle of the Bulge around the city of Bastogne, Belgium and on to the Eagles Nest.
