WWII 8th Air Force Air Gunner’s Tunic
Here is an 8th Army Air Force tunic attributed to Tech Sergeant Patrick L Whittle Radio Operator/Gunner who was with the 379th Bomb group 525th Squadron based at Kimbolton flying in B17 Aircraft completing 25 missions between 16th December 1943 until 13th March 1944.
The tunic is a four pocket service dress in a size 37L.
1.On the left we have a pin back Air Gunners Wings in sterling silver over two rows of medal ribbon's which are sewn on to the tunic for DRC, Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct, American Defence and the ETO with one campaign sterling.
2. On the right is a Presidential Unit Citation pin back and an Honorable discharge badge above.
3. Rank Cheveron to both sleeves and on the right lower sleeve is a Radio Operators triangle badge embroidered on twill. Left sleeve there is an overseas bar and service stripe and an 8th Air Force patch to the shoulder. Right shoulder is an English made Army Air Corps patch.
4. To the lapels are the aviation branch of service and US collar discs.
Overall the tunic is in good condition with a small number of moth nips on the lower back.
The ID is confirmed by the last four numbers in the inside collar as 9788 full Army serial number is 39 679 788 and comes with copy photograph in uniform and a copy crew photo together with a list of the missions flown.
