US Army Air Force Blood Chit - Flying Tigers
A World War II-era U.S. military pilot's "blood chit" featuring the flag of the Republic of Chins, made of silk and carried by airmen in the China Burma India (CBI) theater of operations.
The Chit measures 10” x 8” has been folded in two has creases but will iron out if desired.
The blood chit was to help downed pilots in non-English speaking territory by identifying them as American and requesting local assistance.
The Chinese text translates to a request for local civilians and military personnel to assist the American airman.
A serial number (W 74645) is visible on the chit, which was part of the system used by the Nationalist Government's Commission for Aeronautical Affairs a reward would be paid to the person/s assisting the pilot or aircrew.
