The GHQ (General Headquarters) Air Force patch, first authorized in 1937, was the first shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) created for an independent American air unit. It is distinct from modern Headquarters United States Air Force (HQ USAF) patches used by personnel at the Pentagon.
