93rd Bomb Group 328th Squadron out of Hardwick, station 104, flying B-24 Liberators. Attributed to 1st Lieutenant Theodore Guzik Co-pilot. Known to fly 44-40763 “I’ll get By”. This jacket was published in The Art of the Flight Jacket by Conway/Maguire.
93rd BG Hardwick - Ted’s Traveling Circus”
Operations: Flew 396 combat missions across Europe and North Africa, making it the most traveled and most active B-24 group in the Eighth Air Force.
Notable Missions: Participated in Operation Tidal Wave, the famous August 1, 1943 raid on oil refineries in Ploiești, Romania.
Legacy: Two of its members, Lt. Col. Addison Baker and Major John Jerstad, received the Medal of Honor posthumously for their bravery at Ploiești.
Museum: The 93rd Bomb Group Museum is currently located at the former Hardwick Airfield site in Norfolk.
